Gap of Dunloe, Killarney original oil painting by Irish artist Olivia O'Carra
Gap of Dunloe. Killarney National Park an original oil painting by Killarney artist Olivia O’Carra
The “Gap” a narrow passage through the mountains is one of Co. Kerry’s scenic gems.
Offering a new breathtaking vista around each corner it is one of my favourite places to paint.
Here I have tried to capture the vibrant colour before the ever changing light presents a more muted version.
It is painted on a 12″ x 16″ canvas and in its white wood double frame measures 20″ x 24″

I am based in Killarney a location renowned for the beauty of its scenery. In 2002 when my daughters had finished college and had flown the nest I took early retirement from my work as a science teacher. I was then able to spend much of my time oudoors in the neighbouring National Park and indulge in my passion for painting. Soon I was invited to have a solo exhibition in a nearby gallery and a new career was born. I love the feeling of peace and tranquility and oneness with nature that comes from just being in a beautiful natural environment. I try and recreate and enhance that feeling in my painting so that when you hang it in your living space you will share that same joy and contentment.
