A beautiful hill that evokes the wonderful stories of Galway writer Walter Macken, who was an artist with words. My husband Dolf wanted to stop for a while to take photos of Lough Inagh, so I took a little walk and got a proper look at this hill - you miss so much when you are driving - and got a photo of it. I can easily imagine Walter Macken characters working the land here, talking among themselves, sometimes even planning rebellions. Coole Park is located at the edge of the Burren, so this lake disappears in very dry weather, adding to the general mystery of the area. I painted what I saw, the gleaming light from the white sky on the water, seen through the trees, with some muted light causing a soft glow on the decaying leaves of the forest floor. This painting is for writers, readers, poets, history buffs, and geologists, given the lakes location at the edge of Ireland's arguably most famous geographical area, the Burren.
