A little piece of history… The cord used in our Casual Cord Eye Keeps is a very strong cord that was used by American paratroopers during the Second World War.  After a parachute landing, the cord of the parachute would be cut from the parachute and used for all kinds of applications.  This parachute cord was also used by astronauts during the 82nd Space Shuttle mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. Eye Keep – Braided Leather Our Braided Leather Eye Keep is made from Nappa Leather and an Irish Sterling Silver ring to keep and hold your glasses.   The ring has been stamped by the Dublin Assay Office and this hallmark is your guarantee of quality craftsmanship and quality materials. The Eye Keeps are handmade in our workshop in Dublin. They come in 3 colours, Black, Baby Pink and Tan.  They measure 57cm (22.5 in) and open at the ring with a lobster claw catch. A little piece of history on how Nappa leather got its name… Nappa leather was first made by a man named Emanuel Manasse in the year 1875.  Manasse was born in Germany in 1842 and was the son of a tanner.  In 1864 he travelled to America where he met and married Amelia Hellwig, the daughter of another German tanner in New Jersey. The couple moved to Napa City in California in 1871 where Emanuel began working as Superintendent for the Sawyer Tanning Company in Napa. A gifted tanner, Emanuel was credited with developing Nappa leather, an extremely soft leather used for making gloves.  Manasse was made partner in 1880 and the company remained in business for 120 years, only closing its doors in 1990. Nappa leather is a full-grain leather that is known to be tough yet soft and pliable and is used to make high-end speciality goods for personal use such as bags, wallets, gloves and shoes.

Silver has a long history.  The first evidence of silver mining dates back to 3000 BC to Turkey and Greece.  Today most of the world’s supplies of silver comes from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Peru and Bolivia. In Ireland, the Silvermines in Co. Tipperary is unique amongst Irish mines for two reasons.  Firstly, it contains argentiferous lead and commercial amounts of copper, zinc, barytes and sulphur.  Secondly, for its longevity.
