The Story of the Kerry Bog Pony
The Kerry Bog Pony is one of only three breeds of horses and ponies native to Ireland; the others are the Irish Draught Horse and the Connemara Pony. This is the story of how the Kerry Bog Pony was saved from extinction and ultimately recognised by the irish Department of Agriculture and the EU with the formation of its own Studbook.
It describes the physical attributes of the pony, its character and what is know of its origins. It reveals its position in the agricultural and cultural heritage of the small farms of Kerry.
It also explains the modern science that was used to prove the ponies to be a distinct and recognisable breed.
It is the ideal choice for anyone who has an interest in finding out about the endangered Kerry Bog Pony.

Realising how lucky we were to live in the countryside during the difficult Covid times., we developed Walking with Ponies, a small family business to combine the tranquility of our natural surroundings and the therapeutic effects of interaction with our rare breed native ponies. We offered short walks accompanied by our ponies and knowledgeable guides to encourage visitors to learn about and appreciate our nature and rare native pony.
With all restrictions a thing of the past, we no longer provide the farm visits but we continue to promote our natural surroundings and our Kerry Bog Ponies. Irish people have an innate affinity for our countryside, our natural surroundings, and our indigenous breeds.
Walking with Ponies continues to provide gift items that reflect the richness of our natural environment and celebrate our special Kerry Bog Pony.
