Wooden Worry Nut! - Fidget Toy - Anxiety - Meditation
These beautiful handcrafted worry nuts are perfect to calm your mind and bring you back to the present moment through your sense of touch.
Hold it in your hand and use your sense of touch to ground you.
Studies have shown that holding wood in your hand can calm the pre-frontal cortex and stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. These effects can induce physiological relaxation. In other words it can help to calm your mind and body.
I have dealt with periods of anxiety for most of my life and I have always found that grounding through connecting with something in the room or holding something in my hand helps to ease the anxiety. Holding something cold or textured pulls me out of whatever is flying through my mind. I can’t always have something cold on me but I can have one of these textured wooden nuts in my pocket to help me when I am stressed or anxious.
My experience of anxiety along with my training as a psychotherapist and coach helped me to understand the need to have a self-care plan in place to deal with anxiety. Part of that is big stuff like making sure that I eat well, get enough sleep and manage my stress levels and part of it is small stuff like having 'in the moment' techniques to calm my mind, like the Worry Nut.
Most of my pieces have some textural element to them, and these worry nuts just seemed to be a natural product of my love of wood and the grounding connection of touch.

My passion for woodworking began about 6 years ago when I started carving wood spirits and spoons as a way to manage stress. I wanted a hobby that would allow me to use my hands and promote a mindful engagement with a piece of work. From there I continued to develop my skills, trying out new tools and techniques and making gifts and art pieces for friends and family. I started to get a lot of interest and questions on social media and so I decided to start this small business to sell the pieces that I make. Every time I sell a piece it makes me smile to think that something I created has been invited in to someone’s home, so thank you for your interest in my creations and I hope you find something that makes you smile.
